Sept. 1st, 2007 - Irwindale Speedway
In addition to battling a hungry pack of Speed Trucks on Saturday night, Victor
Pfluger was also battling a nasty flu. Despite the illness, the racing spirit in
this young champion shown through and he was able to make a make a very respectable
evening for himself and the team. Victor, the 16-year-old from
Morristown-Arizona, found himself dealing with unexpected mechanical problems before prior
to the race. The ignition switch had gone south and it took time to
isolate and fix that, but during the process we found that the valve springs were also
bad. After the fast acting crew made the repairs the
#80 Dodge Dakota sponsored by Parker Farms, Copperstate Tire Company and LaHorgue Race
Cars qualified 5th quickest of the trucks.
The main event was an exciting race with Pfluger running the bumper of polesitter
Darren Young for most of the race. Knowing his engine wasn't at 100% Victor's
patience, and acceptance of the truck's limits kept him out of trouble.
Despite the tension that comes with engine surprises, Pfluger was all smiles after the
race. "It was actually a lot of fun, I think it was the most fun that I've ever had
here at Irwindale. Our motor was a little down on power. We found some bad valve springs
but we were able to change them in time so we were a little worried about our horsepower.
But it turned out pretty good. I got up to third at the start and was able to hang there.
I didn't quite have enough at the end of the race but it was still a great run for
us." |
